“ This is a destination steakhouse in Kyoto that specializes in a type of Omi Beef. There’s a reason that locals specifically travel here to eat steak. Chef Yamanaka uses a very traditional approach towards selecting his meat. No dry aging or wet aging here. He focuses on minimizing the time from when the cow is slaughtered to when the steak is cooked to make it as fresh and as deliciously tender as possible. And it definitely works! This restaurant has been around for 47 years and serves amazing steaks. This was my family’s second time visiting the restaurant in less than a year and my kids fell in love with steak because of this place. Chef Yamanaka and his wife and staff are so gracious and friendly, even though their English is limited. We don’t know when we will be able to visit again but we highly recommend this to anyone who visits Kyoto and is willing to travel just outside of the main city area. You can get there by train and bus from Kyoto station but we found it easier to take the train a couple of stops and just cabbing it. Chef Yamanaka is getting up there in age so I hope you get a chance to experience his steaks while you are in Japan. ”

“ One of the best dining experiences we had in Japan. The staff are lovely and attentive. The head chef cooks the steak right in front of you. The steak is amazing, it is the best cut of beef we have ever had. It is so flavourful and absolutely melts in your mouth. You know it is a top quality cut of beef when you look at the precooked steak. The first bite confirms this. The set menue was great and you leave full and satisfied. Would recommend. ”

“ Great steak restaurant outside of central Kyoto. Located in the Katsura area, 15 mins walk from the nearest station, the restaurant seems like a good fit if you’re visiting nearby Arashiyama or Moss temple. Menu is quite easy to decide and very affordable for high-quality beef. The set is simple, straight-forward but very satisfying. Great service and the chef couple tries quite hard to communicate even though sometimes requiring Google Translate. A great establishment opened for close to 50 years. Highly recommended! ”

“ My favorite beef experience in Kyoto hands down. The beef is melt in your mouth delicious and is better than the Kobe beef I had in Osaka. The filet I had was well marbled and had an excellent amount of fat. The staff is so incredibly sweet (all the chefs came to say hi) as well. Highly recommend! ”
